MP’s Christmas wish-list grows as Liberal Government fails to deliver

November 28, 2019

For the fifth consecutive year, local MP Anoulack Chanthivong has penned a letter to Santa calling for his community’s fair share.

The State Member for Macquarie Fields said the letter voiced the community’s frustration at the Liberal Government’s failure to deliver for his electorate and was a plea for action, not empty promises.

“Each year, the wish-list grows longer and each year our community grows increasingly frustrated at being short-changed and ignored by an out-of-touch Liberal Government.

“Whether it’s blatant overdevelopment, selling off school land, a lack of commuter car parking or no lift for Macquarie Fields Station, our community is fed up with the Liberal Government’s inaction and unfairness,” Mr Chanthivong said.

Mr Chanthivong said this year’s list was longer than ever, highlighting the Liberal Government’s contempt for our local area.

“The Liberal Government doesn’t listen, they don’t care and they fail to deliver for our community. I have more faith in a man in a red suit delivering for our community than the Liberal Government. But I will continue to fight for our community’s fair share,” he said.

Top of this year’s list was more commuter car parking, with the Liberal Government yet to deliver its promised 700 new car parking spaces at Edmondson Park.

A lift for Macquarie Fields Station was also high on the list, as well as the need to protect our
green open spaces after the Liberal Government gave the green light to development of our
much-loved Scenic Hills.

Also featured on this year’s list were repeated calls to stop TAFE cuts, stop overdevelopment and stop the Hurlstone Farm sell-off.

Two new additions to this year’s wish-list included:

  • A Service NSW Centre for Edmondson Park (as promised by the Liberal Government in the
lead-up to the State election); and
  • Stop major cuts to health. (It is feared that Campbelltown Hospital and local health services will be impacted by the Liberal Government’s decision to slash $252 million from the health system.)

“How much longer must this list grow before the Liberal Government acts on our concerns and delivers on its promises?” Mr Chanthivong asked.

“I hope to see the Liberal Government deliver on some of its promises before Christmas 2020 rolls around because my community deserves a fair go and we deserve our fair share.”
